NYC Producer and DJ, umru and singer-songwriter and producer, underscores, have joined forces to release their springy dance track ‘Poplife’. You can stream it now on all platforms HERE.
‘Poplife’ was first teased by underscores earlier this year during her opening set for Porter Robinson’s Smile :D Tour. Right after that, there seemed to be a stretch of silence from both artists on the track, with fans unsure if or when they would hear a studio version of ‘Poplife.’ Luckily, when Coachella rolled around, underscores made space for ‘Poplife’ in her debut set, with some members of the crowd singing along, obviously having studied up on the grainy videos of ‘Poplife’ from March.
On April 21st, it was announced that ‘Poplife’ would be officially hitting streaming services on April 24th. However, fans were encouraged to “don't wait 'til midnight” as Zane Lowe would be premiering the track early over on Apple Music.
‘Poplife’ is a vivacious and animated track that blends umru and underscores personalities together perfectly. While they both exist in the digital music sphere, umru leans towards the DJ side of things while underscores has been more tethered to hyperpop. ‘Poplife’ is this perfectly balanced track, being one that could be performed live on a huge stage or simply be mixed into a DJ set broadcast to a smaller, more intimate audience. Regardless of who you’re listening to the song for, you’ll be sure to find an appreciation for the whole track rather than picking sides.
To celebrate the release of the ‘Poplife’ single and bubble-filled music video, umru and underscores have announced a short May North American Tour. For four nights only, fans can catch the exclusive 'Popnite' back-to-back DJ sets from the pair. Their run will start on May 16th in Montreal and finish on May 30th in Chicago. Tickets are on sale now through the individual venues.
