Breakout punk disruptor ThxSoMch unleashes his long-awaited debut album, The Sound of You Laughing, out today via Atlantic Records. The record arrives alongside his gritty new single, “A Sharp Pain”, accompanied by an official music video. To celebrate, ThxSoMch will hit the road this fall with re6ce, bringing his explosive live show across North America, Europe, and the UK.
Fueled by distorted guitars and raw lyricism, “A Sharp Pain” cuts deep into themes of mental health and isolation. Written in just under two hours with longtime collaborator grayskies, the track emerged in a burst of stream-of-consciousness creativity. “This is the easiest and quickest song I’ve ever made,” says ThxSoMch. “It’s grimy, grimey—straight from one intrusive thought to the next.”
Recorded over seven months in Brazil with producer grayskies (d4vd, Wisp) and mixed by Mike Crossey (The 1975, Arctic Monkeys), The Sound of You Laughing captures ThxSoMch at his most vulnerable and self-assured. The album reflects a period of total isolation—no phone, no English, no distractions—that pushed the artist into a pure creative flow. “It put me in the best mental place I’ve been in for a long time,” he recalls. “Creating this was like a cigarette after a long craving. I hope it can be that for someone else too—a fix, a release, something to hold onto.”
