Toronto-based post-punk and alt-rock artist ThxSoMch returns with a striking new single, “Sound of You Laughing,” released via Atlantic Records. The track blends hard-hitting instrumentals with moments of softness, capturing a deep sense of wistful nostalgia. Its accompanying video mirrors this emotional duality, evoking the feeling of flipping through old photographs and memories, both comforting and painful.
The song’s inception came when producer Flawed Mangoes sent ThxSoMch a collection of instrumentals. One particular guitar riff sparked the inspiration for what would become “Sound of You Laughing.” After experimenting with the track and collaborating with LMG for drums, ThxSoMch freestyled much of the final version in a single take. He described the process as instinctive and cathartic, saying, “It sat on my computer for a while until I revisited it with grayskies... ‘Sound of You Laughing’ is both comfort and discomfort.”
The music video, directed by Tommy Kiljoy, was developed in reverse—built entirely around the theme of old photographs. Its hazy, nostalgic visuals were carefully crafted to align with the song’s emotional tone. Kiljoy explains, “The whole goal was to nail that super specific feeling: that liminal nostalgia you get from seeing old playground photos... I’m genuinely so in love with how this video turned out.”
Since breaking out in 2022 with the viral hit “SPIT IN MY FACE!,” ThxSoMch has been on a rapid rise. The single amassed over 672 million Spotify streams and even landed on the Billboard Hot 100. He has since toured across the U.S. and Europe, performed at Rolling Loud, and built a global following with over 1 billion career streams and a massive TikTok presence with more than 413,000 followers.
“Sound of You Laughing” marks yet another evolution in ThxSoMch’s sound—keeping his best memories alive through music that’s at once raw and reflective. The track continues his fearless approach to emotional storytelling and genre experimentation, hinting at more boundary-pushing releases to come.

ThxSoMch has become known for transforming intrusive thoughts into brutally honest anthems. Originally gaining attention for his gritty, viral sound, he has proven himself to be far more than a one-hit act. His music effortlessly blends alt-rock, emo, and experimental pop with a tone that’s darkly funny, emotionally transparent, and uniquely self-aware—qualities sharpened even further after a seven-month escape to Brazil that redefined his artistic vision.
