This Wild Life is not a band I listen to on the regular since their style is predominantly acoustic; which is kind of out of my wheelhouse. When I saw Yellowcard last year, This Wild Life was one of the artists who opened that night. As I was listening to their set, their sound was extremely magical. There’s a whimsicality about them that makes me feel like I’m dreaming that I’m walking on the beach as a kid. It’s calming and uplifting. When I saw they’d be headlining a tour supported by Young Culture and Belmont this time around, I had to be there and come support.
Young Culture, formed in 2016 by vocalist Alex Magnan and guitarist Gabe Pietrafesa when some of the pop punk bands I had listened to were thinking about making a comeback. Since the start of the band, they immediately got to work and put out an thirteen track album in 2017 titled 'Blue/You'. I jumped on the craze that never truly died . When reading more about the band, I discovered soon after they wrote a hip hop, r&b driven mixtape under “YC” before returning to their signature style. The influences can be heard in the catchiness of their music and their infectious energy. They are one of those bands you know is going to be a great time.

Next to take the stage was Belmont. I discovered Belmont when they supported Rain City Drive on their headlining tour this past fall. They went on in between Until I Wake and Rain City Drive. At the time, I was really confused as to why I hadn’t heard their name before. Especially because the bands that put out the best energy are the ones that stick with me for the long haul. These guys are no exception. In the context of this tour. I would describe them as the yoga before the meditation. Get rid of all your pent up anger and anxiety here and now, so you can fully take in the benefits of the meditation. The band was formed in Chicago in 2014, when vocalist Taz Johnson was still in high school. He was joined by drummer Brian Lada, and guitarist Jason Inguagiato Lada’s college friend that had been involved in the writing process previously to release their first album Aftermath through Pure Noise Records. January 2024 the band put out their second LP Liminal.

A This Wild Life show is basically a musical meditation if you close your eyes and sway to the gentle strums. Formed by 2 drummers, Kevin Jordan (Vocals, Guitar) and Anthony Del Grosso (Guitar, Backup Vocals), from the aftermath of the breakup of their band The Messenger, no one expected a switch to acoustic. Turns out the band had been getting more attention towards their acoustic tracks anyways, but they had never seemed to break out of their local scene. In 2014, the duo picked up their lives and flew across the country to write the all- acoustic album Clouded with Copeland’s Aaron Marsh. The band gained a following quickly as they grew into their identity: An uplifting sound created with instruments that can be played. Soon after the band joined the Warped Tour Lineups and supported the likes of Peirce the Veil, Dashboard Confessional and New Found Glory on massive tours.
