The Pretty Wild Unveils Haunting New Single "Button Eyes"

On Friday, March 7, 2025 - Upcoming metalcore powerhouse The Pretty Wild have unveiled their brand new track "Button Eyes" via Sumerian Records. You are now able to view the official music video on Sumerian Records. The Pretty Wild is a metal band from Las Vegas, Nevada which consists of sisters Jyl and Jules Wylde. Both of these women have made such a huge impact in the music scene with their haunting cleans and terrifying screams and if you watch the music videos, you can see Jyl showing off her martial arts moves.

Jyl and Jules have previously released their powerful debut single on Sumerian Records titled "sLeepwALkeR" which has already surpassed 5.6 million Spotify streams, with the official video already amassing 381k views on YouTube. The breakdown to this track has made it on my top 2024 breakdowns of the year. These talented women have recently also dropped a new collab single with Long Island's metalcore band Deadlands (Kasey Karlsen, CJ Arey), titled "Kundalini" via Spinefarm Records. Recently, Sumerian Records has premiered a new film titled 'Queen Of The Ring' which was streaming in movie theaters on March 7th. The Pretty Wild has joined forces with fellow Sumerian artists such as Kittie and Diamante on their reimagination of Metallica's "The Unforgiven".

In discussion on the new track "Button Eyes", Jules from The Pretty Wild shares to fans "This song is for anyone who’s ever felt objectified, used or controlled. It’s about the moment you consciously break free from manipulation and you sever ties with that toxicity for good. We used dolls as a vessel for this theme, mostly as a way to blend playful melodies and imagery in a way that lightens a heavy conversation topic.

Jyl from The Pretty Wild adds on and mentions, "'Button Eyes' explores the theme of disillusionment with life and the process of reclaiming personal power. The song cheekily pokes at the painful process of breaking free from the misleading beliefs that held us back and stepping into our truth. Essentially empowering ourselves by rejecting disempowering narratives that were imposed upon us. Personally, I love this one because it comes across fun, poppy, and superficial, but the irony in it, is that it’s the juxtaposition of all that at its core."

Listening to the start of the track, my body immediately started to feel goosebumps. It sort of feels like I am living in the world of Coraline, hence the button eyes. From the promo photos and the videos that The Pretty Wild has been uploading on social media, I am TERRIFIED. Both of their vocals sound creepy but sort of relaxing at the same time. The track showcases the band's unique signature style and combines their intense energy with heavy melodies. The Coraline inspired aesthetic from the cover art adds more visuals to the song's emotional themes. The breakdown was what stood the most out to me because of the lyrics "Cut out the parasite, You fed on me you fed me lies, You build my trust then watched it die". As what Jules has mentioned previously, you are in an escape for the toxicity that you were trapped in for so long. Overtime, the trust you built with a person whether it is a friend, family member or a relationship decays as you acknowledge their toxicity and isolate yourself from the manipulation.
