The Comfort have been slowly teasing songs leading up to their upcoming album release, Let the Love In. Ahead of the October 3rd release, the band released their fourth and final single off the album, “Garden State”.
The song itself is a deeply personal and meaningful song for singer and bassist Dominic Harper. He shared that this song is about finding your place in this world and how one doesn’t always fit into the box one would describe as normal. In addition, Harper stated, "For most of my life, I’ve felt slightly outside the status quo and while that’s often a blessing, I still find myself wondering what it might be like to belong more easily. At its core, Garden State is a letter to myself, or a kind of self pep talk to get out there, love people, love myself, and fully live life. Though the song carries a thread of melancholy, it ultimately reflects acceptance. I’ve learned to embrace who I am and to see the value in existing outside the norm. The world has so much to offer those of us who don’t quite fit, and it would be a shame not to lean into that and explore what it truly means to exist.”
This song is deeply relatable and as you listen, you can hear the emotion in Harper’s voice. The Comfort has always been a band that sings from the heart, but amongst these four singles, you can clearly hear it more and more. Following the band since 2017, it has been incredible to watch them grow and shape their sound into who they are today. It’s hard to pinpoint their sound but just give them a listen. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
