Roadrunner Records' newest darlings, Teen Mortgage announced their debut full length album, "Devil Ultrasonic Dream" will grace the world on April 11th! Hailing from the DMV area by way of the UK, frontman James Guile and his partner in angsty hooks and unrelenting energy, drummer Edward Barakauskas spent years honing their sound and leaving their footprints around the DC, Maryland, VA rock scene and making waves along the way.
Guile moved from the UK to Maryland about five years ago but had been toying with the project under different names. While he was testing out what worked and what didn't, Guile remained influenced by classic 80s punk and heavy mosh pit culture, but also steeped the work in sociopolitical commentary. Connecting with Barakauskas via Craigslist ad, the two found time to drop an EP during the pandemic while Barakauskas was working as an ER front line nurse, and hitting the pavement around their local scene, finally catching the attention of Roadrunner Records and signing to the label in 2024.
In the spirit of seething defiance, the album's title, "Devil Ultrasonic Dream" leans into the 1980s era of satanic panic rock music, given the state of the country. When asked about it, Guile said, "the "Devil Ultrasonic Dream" is about realizing a fantasy that Christian fascists don't understand or want you to have. The devil - Satan - has always been a symbol of counterculture."
The lead single, "BOX" is produced by the band themselves along with longtime collaborator and producer Kenny Eaton. The new video is a monochrome nightmare of animated skeletons and clowns, drawn and directed by Adam Fuchs (yes, THAT Adam Fuchs of Adult Swim, Flying Lotus, HEALTH, and Skrillex fame) that lives in the classic 80s vibe that Teen Mortgage are revamping and unleashing on the world.
