Sensory Records proudly presents The Constant Void, the emotionally charged and sonically intense second full-length from European progressive metal force, PHILOSOPHOBIA.
Formed in 2020 by seasoned musicians spread across Germany, The Netherlands, and Greece, PHILOSOPHOBIA brings together talent from the likes of Kamelot, Paul Di’Anno, Wastefall, and more. Their self-titled debut album dropped in 2022 and made an immediate impact—earning glowing praise from critics worldwide, including 10/10 reviews, Album of the Month in France's Rock Hard Magazine, and high placements on several year-end lists. It was clear right away: PHILOSOPHOBIA wasn’t just another side project—they were a serious new presence in the progressive metal landscape.
Now, the band returns with The Constant Void—a record that doesn’t just follow up on the promise of the debut but pushes it further into new, darker, and more emotionally complex territory.
The Constant Void finds PHILOSOPHOBIA expanding their musical identity, blending the technical precision and ambition of classic prog metal with a modern, heavier edge and an emotionally raw undercurrent. Most of the original lineup returns, including guitarist/producer Andreas Ballnus, powerhouse drummer Alex Landenburg, vocalist Domenik Papaemmanouil, and keyboardist Tobias Wergerber. This time around, the low end is held down by Sebastian Heuckmann, who stepped in for original bassist Kristoffer Gildenlöw and has been playing live with the band since 2024.
Spanning nine tracks and nearly 65 minutes, the album weaves together intricate melodies, crushing riffs, ambient keys, and powerful vocal performances—creating a cinematic and cathartic journey that explores the human condition in all its pain and contradiction.
Once again, the band partnered with Phil Hillen at SU2 Studios in Germany (known for work with Powerwolf, Kamelot) to handle engineering, mixing, and mastering duties. The result is a massive, clear, and emotionally textured sound that perfectly matches the record’s weight. The haunting and beautifully detailed cover art was designed by Björn Gooßes of Killustrations, in close collaboration with Ballnus, with additional photography by MaJ Music.
One of the album’s standout moments is the blistering track “F 40.8,” which features a guest keyboard solo from Vikram Shankar (Redemption, Silent Skies), while the closing epic, “The Forgotten Part II,” clocks in at 20 minutes and includes a dramatic spoken-word section from Rob Leland.
“King of Fools” — Lead Single and Visual Statement
The first taste of The Constant Void comes via the video for “King of Fools,” directed by band members Ballnus and Papaemmanouil. As the album’s opener, the track wastes no time making a statement. It's fast, aggressive, and richly layered—featuring tight, driving rhythms, dual guitar/keyboard melodies, and a dynamic vocal performance that shifts from guttural power to melodic vulnerability.
According to Ballnus: “This song is a full-spectrum showcase of what PHILOSOPHOBIA represents. It’s heavy, intricate, and emotionally charged—but always in service of the song itself.” “Watching people cheer for others' suffering is soul-crushing,” Ballnus continues. “If these lyrics feel directed at you—then yes, we meant you. We’re no longer divided by small gaps—we’re separated by a chasm. A constant void.”
The Constant Void lands July 11, 2025 on CD and all major digital platforms.
