Royal & the Serpent has released “Steering (So Fast)” off her anxiously awaited debut album, Emptiness is Godly, arriving May 8, 2026, via Atlantic Records. The project was also preceded by double singles “Favorite Person” and “Fiona,” all streaming on the singer-songwriter’s official YouTube channel HERE. You can pre-order the new song “Steering (So Fast)” below

Emptiness is Godly unspools, an immersive conceptual narrative tied together across the soundscapes and lyrics. Of the new track, Royal & the Serpent stated, “Steering (So Fast) was written between the hours of 1am and 4am on my living room floor. My boyfriend was fast asleep next to me. He’d been playing the chords before he drifted off. I snagged the guitar and didn’t put my pen down until I was proud. I got to finish it with one of my best friends and longest collaborators (Overwhelmed, Weddings & Funerals, Salvador Dali) - Marky Style. This song feels like home. She’s surprising and confronting and fearfully bold. She’s what wanting and yearning and chasing and failing feels like. I love her.”

Last we heard from Royal & the Serpent was in 2025 when she appeared at select dates of the sold-out Vans Warped Tour and dropped fan favorites “Young As This” and “Euphoria.” Royal & the Serpent remains one of alternative music’s most unique and irresistible outliers. She has impressively surpassed 900 million global streams, nearing the 1 billion mark. In addition, she has shared the stage with everyone from Fall Out Boy and Avril Lavigne to Demi Lovato and Bring Me The Horizon.

ABOUT ROYAL & THE SERPENT:

Royal & the Serpent is an artist entirely unafraid to display the deepest and darkest parts of her soul. After making her Atlantic Records debut with the 2020 EP, "Get a Grip," highlighted by the RIAA Gold-certified single “Overwhelmed,” which spent 22 weeks on Billboard’s “Alternative Airplay” chart, the L.A.-based singer-songwriter revealed even more of her intense inner world in 2022 with “IF I DIED WOULD ANYONE CARE” and “Happiness Is An Inside Job.” Along the way, she also teamed up with GRAMMY-nominated/multi-Platinum-certified GAYLE for the vengeful collaboration “kinda smacks” and The Beaches on “Blame Brett (feat. Royal & the Serpent).” Her single "Wasteland" from the Arcane League of Legends soundtrack has further cemented her impact, garnering over 115M global streams; she notably performed the track at The Game Awards in December 2024.

Royal’s unfiltered songwriting has proved wildly rich to her ever-growing fanbase, building a tight community of fans drawn to her one-of-a-kind balance of intense sensitivity and unruly self-possession. “The main reason I make music is that it’s the best therapy I could ever ask for: the process of taking everything in my brain and putting it on paper and then singing it out loud for people is so helpful and healing for me. The idea that my own expression can affect people in positive ways is such a blessing and a gift; I don’t ever take it lightly. I just want to keep telling my truth and reach as many people as I possibly can, and see where this little journey takes us.”
