Even though summer is wrapping up, Rainbow Kitten Surprise is keeping the upbeat energy coming with their latest single, ‘Dang’. With the steady guitar riffs building towards the chorus, it almost feels like the budding of a new relationship, sending the listener straight into the honeymoon phase with blind excitement while the lyrics speak on a deeper level, discussing what sounds like a one-sided plea for their lover to simply call them back. Released on July 18th, 2025, the single has already reached a whopping two million streams worldwide, leaving it at Rainbow Kitten Surprises' fifth most-streamed song. With Ela Melo’s astonishingly powerful vocals taking the stage, ‘Dang’ drives you through a chorus that begs to be shouted on a late-night drive with friends, windows down and your hair blowing in the wind as you simply feel.
The music video, inspired by the 2008 film ‘Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist’, although instead of following the movies plot of a group of high schoolers racing through New York to see their favorite band perform a pop-up show, it follows a real-life queer couple racing through an unknown city as RKS throws in their twist on the story. The video takes you through a visualization of the excitement and energy of the song, feeling like a short film with its artistry and mastery in representing queer love. You can feel the liveliness of not only the couple but the city itself as they find joy in the journey, and even in their rushed adventure, find time to stop and have fun along the way.
When creating the song, RKS shared, “When we wrote this, we envisioned tracking it with Jay Joyce, and it’s pretty legendary that it actually came to be. The song is both an ode to some earlier RKS sounds and also a letter to the fans who have supported us through many iterations of the band.”
The single was released, to the fans' excitement and surprise, in the middle of Rainbow Kitten Surprise's ‘Thanks for Coming Tour’ (tour dates available below), where the band has been in amphitheaters across America. Featuring countless sold-out shows (some of which can be found livestreamed here), Rainbow Kitten Surprise has been performing countless never-heard-before tracks, hyping fans up, and receiving widespread critical praise, with some critics even exclaiming, “a masterful display of live music—raw, unpredictable, and utterly unforgettable.”
Not only is the band making astonishing moves on stage, but also behind the scenes with the release of the Rainbow Kitten Surprise Fund in collaboration with PLUS1, the band donates $1 of every ticket sold to promoting equality within LGBTQ+ Rights, mental health access, and supporting food sovereignty. If you were on the fence about seeing the astonishing musicians live, now you can rest easy knowing that your money is spent not only towards a good cause but also towards an experience of a lifetime.
