Philly Post-Hardcore Supergroup Bitter Branches Announce New Album 'Let's Give the Land Back to the Animals'

Philadelphia-based post-hardcore band Bitter Branches have announced their upcoming album, Let’s Give the Land Back to the Animals, set to release on March 6 via Equal Vision Records. Arriving four years after the band’s debut album, Your Neighbors Are Failures, the new record goes in a moodier and more introspective direction. Singles “Basic Karate” and “Cave Dwellers" are now available, and the album can be presaved HERE.

In a turbulent world where inequalities are rampant and authoritarianism continues to rise, Let’s Give the Land Back to the Animals explores having to cope in such a reality, as well as practicing defiance against such corruption. The band also teamed up with legendary producer J. Robbins for the album, who understood their vision for their darker sound.

On some of these songs, I let myself explore some dark thoughts in my head,” vocalist Tim Singer shares, citing the vigilante-inspired narrative of “Basic Karate” as an example. “It’s not your typical belligerent music because there’s a lot of open space; it feels like it’s a bit more sinister.”

“On our first record I feel like we were all trying to get our feet underneath it, but on this one we really wanted to lean into the groove,” drummer Jeff Tirabassi explains. “On a fanboy level, especially for us old heads, it scratches that Jesus Lizard itch; a little bit of exploring a lane over there instead of the typical lanes,” Singer adds. “There’s a lot in that post-hardcore lane that we all love that I don’t think is explored enough … or at least not by the right people.”

At the album’s core, it centers on trying to do the right thing in a world where people feel like they have no control. “I’m an angry vegan so there’s a little bit of that, but I’m also an angry environmentalist and anti-capitalist," he explains. “A lot of that stuff we know is terrible we just gloss over and look the other way, myself included.” It’s a wake-up call to those who need it, inspiring them to take a stand against the oppressive forces of today’s world.
