Gothenburg-based doom metal band Monolord have released a new track titled “It’s Neverending,” featuring guest vocals from Jörgen Sandström (Grave, formerly Entombed). The song serves as the final preview of their upcoming album Neverending, which is scheduled for release on May 29, 2026 through Relapse Records. Pre-orders for the album are available here: https://www.relapse.com/pages/monolord-neverending
The track was shared alongside a visualizer on May 18, 2026. Vocalist and guitarist Thomas Jäger explained that his original demo used his own growls as a rough guide, but the final version took time to fully come together. He described Sandström’s contribution as especially powerful and fitting for the song’s tone. Bassist Mika Häkki also reacted strongly to the finished result, saying the final vocal performance elevated the track in a way that surprised and excited the band.
To create “Neverending”, Monolord traveled to Ashland, Oregon to work with producer Sylvia Massy, known for her work with acts like Tool, System of a Down, and Johnny Cash. According to Jäger, Massy requested access to the band’s entire archive of material, including older riffs and unused ideas spanning many years. After reviewing everything, she selected specific material for the band to focus on. Out of 12 rehearsed songs, 11 were recorded, and 8 ultimately made it onto the final album, shaping a more focused but still expansive version of the band’s sound.
The album has already been introduced through earlier singles. “You Bastard” debuted with studio footage from the recording sessions and was praised by outlets like Revolver, which called it “glorious,” while Consequence highlighted it as a standout heavy release and described Monolord as Swedish leaders in doom metal. Another preview track, “Oozing Wound,” was noted for its especially low tuning and heavier direction compared to the band’s earlier material.
The full album Neverending arrives on May 29, 2026 and includes the following tracks: “Iodine,” “You Bastard,” “Inside A Collider,” “Crystal Bridge,” “Oozing Wound,” “The Masque,” “Invisible,” and “It’s Neverending,” with the final track featuring guest vocals from Jörgen Sandström.
Monolord formed in Gothenburg in 2013 and have built a reputation for blending heavy, slow-burning doom with melodic structure and atmospheric weight. Across albums like Empress Rising (2014), Vænir (2015), “Rust” (2017), No Comfort (2019), and “Your Time To Shine” (2021), they have developed a global following through both studio releases and extensive touring, appearing at major festivals such as Hellfest, Desertfest, Psycho Las Vegas, and Roadburn. Their upcoming album Neverending marks the next phase of their collaboration with producer Sylvia Massy and arrives on May 29, 2026 via Relapse Records. The band’s U.S. tour begins on June 11.
