Miss May I returns to the stage with a fan focused treat of performing their debut album, Apologies Are For The Weak, in full with a stacked supportive array of headliners. Their performance at The Brooklyn Monarch in NYC fully demonstrated this as well as reminding the scene as to why Miss May I were such a staple in modern metalcore for so many years.

Opening up the show were local headliners Dishonest Escape. The band made their way to the stage, set up their trusty iPad with the backing tracks, and made way to set the standard for the show. Shifting from energetic vocals to rapped lyrics to even speaking about the importance of their music, it was more than a joy to begin the night with Dishonest Escape screaming in your face with theatrics to match the energy.
Now we have the touring artists. Bloom, melodic hardcore coming all the way from Sydney, Australia, were nothing short of a fun time. From the aggressive vocals, intricate musicianship, and well paced setlist, you can tell that they meant business. Extensively expressive their gratefulness between the crushing screams fit for the genre to the soaring cleans provided by their guitarist, you can tell that they loved every minute of what they do and were passionate to be there.
Following up, Traitors takes the stage. Traveling in from Florida, you can tell their goal was just to have a good time. Traitors was the first band to fully take advantage of the video wall backdrop being used on tour. Their frontman demanding the crowd to dance, two step, and engage in circle pits, was just promoting a fun night while the video wall behind him had looping WWE matches to fit a not so serious energy. Traitors came to party and they did nothing short of succeed.
On deck we have In Hearts Wake, from Byron Bay, Australia. Active since 2006, their experience was palpable. With a super melodic approach without missing the beat of the aggressive themes for the night, they put on a super surprising performance that was captivating from beginning to end. Displaying their logo, lyric videos, and other visualizers to match their music along with the impeccable playing to reinforce their theatrics. In Hearts Wake also brought on several guest vocalists to celebrate the night and to really help tie the show and energy together. About three quarters into the set, the band celebrated the birthday for their guitarist, Ben, as well as had a cake brought out on stage for him for a moment that very much was enjoyed by the band and audience alike.
After wrapping up the set with an impressively quick changeover, Miss May I takes the stage without a second to waste. Starting off with a theatrical orchestral introduction by backing track, the band comes out and begins the album with A Dance With Aera Cura. From that point forward, the band barely stopped for pleasantries or any banter. They were on a mission to put on as energetic of a show as possible. Fully backlit with their album art static on the video wall, you can tell they wanted the focus to be on the music.
Throughout their set, they expressed their gratitude for the support of their fans and for giving them the ability to play songs that otherwise wouldn’t be played live since they get to play the album in full. Upon finishing the album, Miss May I performed several tracks that span their discography before bringing the explosive and energetic night to a close.
