Lisbon-based rock band MISS LAVA is back with their heaviest and darkest album yet, Under A Black Sun. Set for release on April 25th through Small Stone Recordings, this marks the band’s fifth studio album and carries a raw emotional intensity that sets it apart from their previous work. Today, they’ve unveiled the album’s first single along with preorder details.

“It’s a really intense record,” says frontman Johnny Lee. “The experiences we’ve gone through over the years pushed us to explore darker themes. We experimented with new sounds and had an incredible time putting this album together.”

Celebrating their 20th anniversary, MISS LAVA sees Under A Black Sun as a testament to their enduring journey. “It’s been an insane ride since we started in a small studio in Lisbon back in 2005,” says guitarist K. Raffah. “Releasing this album two decades later with Small Stone is a dream come true. Now, we just want to take these songs on the road and play them live everywhere we can!”

This album also marks a milestone for the band as it’s their first with drummer Pedro Gonçalves, adding a heavier edge to their sound. Recorded and engineered by Miguel “Veg” Marques—who also worked on their previous album, Doom Machine—the record was produced by both MISS LAVA and Marques, mixed by Steve Lehane, and mastered by Chris Goosman.

Ahead of the release, the band is dropping the title track, Under A Black Sun. Describing the song, Lee explains, “It’s about falling under a dark influence and the struggle between being consumed by it or finding a way to navigate through it.”
