Mayday Parade Close Their Ambitious Album Trilogy With the Release of Sugar

After nearly two decades of shaping the emo and pop-punk landscape, Mayday Parade have reached the final chapter of one of the most ambitious projects of their career. Today, the Florida veterans officially release Sugar, the third and final installment of their three-part album trilogy, completing a musical journey that began with Sweet in April 2025 and continued with Sad later that October.

Alongside the album's arrival, the band has also unveiled the official music video for the energetic new single, "Sweet Sad Sugar," giving fans one final visual piece to accompany a project that has defined the band's last two years.

Together, Sweet, Sad, and Sugar form a nearly 30-song body of work that captures the many sides of Mayday Parade. Rather than releasing a traditional full-length record, the band chose to divide the project into three distinct chapters—each carrying its own identity while contributing to a larger narrative.

Where Sweet delivered upbeat hooks and infectious energy and Sad leaned into the band's emotional core with introspective songwriting, Sugar successfully bridges those two worlds. The album embraces the nostalgia longtime fans have come to love while introducing a renewed sense of confidence that reflects where the band stands today.

Produced once again by longtime collaborators Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount, Sugar showcases the band's versatility across its ten tracks. Songs like "Lying To Myself" bring a driving urgency, while "Two Hearts" offers shimmering melodies and undeniable pop-punk charm. Meanwhile, the title track, "Sweet Sad Sugar," pays tribute to the Tallahassee music scene that first inspired the band's early years, serving as both a celebration of their roots and a reminder of just how far they've come.

The album concludes with "What Happens Next," an atmospheric and reflective closer that not only brings the trilogy to an emotional finish but also hints that Mayday Parade's story is far from over.

The newly released music video for "Sweet Sad Sugar" perfectly complements the song's infectious energy, highlighting the chemistry that has kept the five-piece together through countless tours, albums, and milestones. It serves as a fitting conclusion to the visual identity that has accompanied each release throughout the trilogy.

Reflecting on the project, bassist Jeremy "Cabbage" Lenzo shared his appreciation for the fans who embraced the band's unconventional approach.

"We're really grateful for the fans who have been with us through this whole journey and supported us in doing something like this. It's what gives us the confidence to try something this big and see it through, because we know they're right there with us."

Released independently, the trilogy also marks a new era of creative freedom for Mayday Parade. Free from the traditional album cycle, the band has spent the last two years celebrating its 20th anniversary while continuing to evolve artistically.

That momentum has extended well beyond the studio. Since launching the trilogy, Mayday Parade have embarked on their biggest North American headlining tour to date, performed internationally alongside All Time Low, Simple Plan, and Jack's Mannequin, and returned to the iconic Vans Warped Tour, a festival deeply connected to the band's history and rise within the scene.

With more than 1.49 billion career streams, multiple Gold and Platinum certifications, and a catalog that helped define a generation of emo, alternative, and pop-punk fans, Mayday Parade continue to prove why they've remained one of the genre's most beloved acts. While many bands from their era have slowed down, the group continues to embrace new creative challenges without losing the heartfelt songwriting and authenticity that first resonated with listeners nearly twenty years ago.

The band will officially celebrate the release of Sugar with a performance at Vans Warped Tour Long Beach before continuing a packed festival schedule throughout the remainder of 2026 and into early 2027.
