Like Moths To Flames Share “Over The Garden Wall” Video, Along With New Album, “The Cycles Of Trying To Cope”

Ohio metalcore band, Like Moths To Flames have released a music video for Over The Garden Wall, the third track on their new album, The Cycles Of Trying To Cope, released on May 10th. Listen to the album here. Like Moths To Flames are Chris Roetter (vocals), Zach Pishney (guitar), Roman Garcia (drums), and Cody Cavanaugh (guitar).

The video for Over The Garden Wall displays haunting and creepy imagery, with the band performing in the woods, with more unsettling clips in between.

"This song has a lot of parallels with the body representing a home.”

— Chris Roetter on “Over The Garden Wall”

Roetter explains that, “The record encapsulates the many varying emotions we go through when trying to grow through life. The last few years, I really tried to harness some of those emotions as a catalyst to get through whatever I was going through at the time. I think we all have our own unique ways to cope and these are mine.”

THE CYCLES OF TRYING TO COPE TRACK LISTING:

“Angels Weep”

“Paradigm Trigger”

“Over The Garden Wall”

“Gone Without A Trace”

“Dissociative Being”

“The Shepherd’s Crown”

“To Know Is To Die”

“Kintsugi”

“Everything That Once Held It Together”

“The Depths I Roam”

“What Do We See When We Leave This Place?”

Each single the band has released is tied to a coping “cycle”. The names of the four cycles are LIMBO, FRACTURE, DISSOCIATE, and MELANCHOLIA. The album wasn’t originally intended to be a concept album, but Roetter’s reflections on the concepts of the coping cycles allowed him to dive into this landscape and craft the concept, partially shaped by Dante’s Purgatory.

A big focal point for Moths has always been writing about things I'm actively going through,” Roetter explains. “But when I realized that each song on the new album covers a unique approach I've had to a specific emotion, it felt like we needed something that could escort listeners through the record. It definitely helps it all feel cohesive and complete; Sometimes an album can just feel like a collection of songs, but I think this is more an experience to the band — I hope that people are able to find some solace in knowing someone else out there is dealing with these things too.

The record encapsulates the varying emotions we go through when trying to grow through life. Over the last few years, I've really tried to harness my emotions as a catalyst to get through whatever I was facing at the time. I think we all have our own unique ways to cope — these are mine. Just being able to write about this stuff and put it out into the world makes it feel like I'm not so alone.”

— Chris Roetter
