Two names that have been instrumental in the heavy music industry have combined for what could be considered the most important move in the industry thus far. Ryan O’Leary of Fit for a King and Off Road Minivan and Leo Valeri of Brand of Sacrifice have teamed up to create Papercut Recordings. With this new record label, the two men aim to put the power back into the hands of the artist.
When asked about the label, the two stated, “If there’s one thing we’ve seen enough of, it’s seeing new talent get steamrolled. Our mission is to return creative control and power to the people who earned it—the artists. We provide fair, transparent funding paired with real-world expertise from people who are metal musicians themselves, living and breathing the scene alongside you. It’s about partnership, respect, and building something authentic together.”
With the announcement of the label, they also announced their first two signings: BLACKSHAPE and LIMBS. These two bands are in great hands and will be learning from some of the best in the industry.
What Papercut Recordings is setting out to do is something unlike what has been seen in the industry previously. They are being upfront and honest with their artists, not trying to pull a wall over their eyes. They aim to treat their artists like the people that they are, and they are not in it for the money. Papercut Recordings is giving the power to the artist, just as they always should have.
With this new label entering the heavy music scene, this could absolutely change the game. With two bands already destined for great things signed to the label, they can only go up from here.
Wishing O’Leary and Valeri the best of luck on this new endeavor and all the success to Papercut Recordings.
