After I Prevail parted ways with lead singer Brian Burkheiser, the band released their first single in their new era, “Violent Nature”. On June 20, they debuted their second single, “Into Hell”. You can watch the music video for it here.
When asked about the song, frontman Eric Vanlerberghe stated “This song is about loving someone through their lows and struggles. Being there to take their burdens. Loving them through everything because that’s what they do for you.” This is not the first song that the band has written that touches on mental health struggles. When Burkheiser was in the band, he was very upfront and honest about the things that he suffered through. However, this is the first time that the band is delving into the topic without Brian.
This song is a drastic shift from their first song that they released this year. This is more of a ballad, where is “Violent Nature” is aggression right from the start. This is also the first song since Brian’s departure where we actually hear Vanlerberghe’s singing voice, as he was the member of the band who did harsh lyrics. This was not a bad song by any means, just something that fans will get used to. With the stark difference between the two songs, I am curious to see what direction I Prevail will continue to go in.
