UK-based pop punk band Hot Milk released their newest single, “Swallow This”, from their upcoming sophomore album Corporation P.O.P, set to release on June 27. Stream the new single HERE and watch the music video below.
“Swallow This” is a poignant track that takes aim at the rampant corruption of today’s world leaders, who are eagerly bringing about societal collapse for personal gain. The track addresses how they keep people ignorant and misinformed in order to stay in power. About the track, vocalist and guitarist Han Mee shares, "We live in a post-truth era, we are confused, we are lost, and we are untrusting. We must follow our gut to what is moral, right and kind. 'Swallow This' is a protest song against the hypodermic needle of control media. They anger and press upon pressure points to gain control. As we have always said, 'QUESTION EVERYTHING.' It is healthy and it is right in this world that has evolved too fast for our primate brains to keep up. We must prioritize the wellness and safety of our fellow man, no matter their race, creed, religion, gender, or sexuality. We are human beings, do not let something as common as money and power replace what truly matters. Community, joy, laughter, spirit. I will stand on that picket line first if it comes to it, for now, this is all we got. Enjoy, f 'em."
“Swallow This” is one of the many politically-charged tracks in Corporation P.O.P, focusing not just on problems in the band’s home country of the UK, but around the world as well. Han Mee explains her passion for addressing these societal issues, saying "I've always felt like a bit of a white knight – it's my duty to save the world somehow. I feel very, very impacted by the world's issues, consistently. I wanted to be an MEP [Member of European Parliament], that was my dream."
Despite the album addressing global issues, there is a specific influence from the band’s home city of Manchester; they even shot all of the album’s music videos in Manchester to highlight the city’s importance to them. Han explains, "Newt Gingrich, who was a U.S. politician, once said, 'All politics is local’. I'm trying to look local and be involved locally so I can affect my world. This is how I survive, because the world can feel overwhelming."
Han continues, "Manchester is the best f'in city in the world. We started this band in Manchester, it's intrinsic to me and who I am. It has to bleed into the art we create, because it helped me create it."
Corporation P.O.P. is produced by vocalist and guitarist Jim Shaw, along with Zach Jones and KJ Strock. It was also recorded as a live album, exemplifying the realness of the record, which features the band’s most raw and passionate lyrics yet. Heavy both sonically and lyrically, Corporation P.O.P. is another unapologetic record from Hot Milk, further solidifying them as one of the most “punk” bands of the current pop punk scene. Hot Milk will be supporting Magnolia Park on their US tour, and will also be performing at Warped Tour in Long Beach, CA and several other festivals. Get tickets HERE.
