Ghosts, Ghouls, Zombies and Seether Close Out the Summer Stage

ree

October 4th in Asbury Park, New Jersey brought us crisp fall air, zombies, and hard rock thanks to Seether, Daughtry, P.O.D., and Kami Kehoe. Why zombies? It was also Asbury Park’s 17th annual Zombie Walk. Zombies of all ages crawled their way from the Asbury Park Boardwalk past the legendary Stone Pony. Getting back to the music — the South African hard rockers closed out the season at the Summer Stage as part of their North American co-headliner tour with Daughtry. Fans lined up around the block to see the sights and scares before the doors opened.

Chasing daylight up first was Kami Kehoe, Las Vegas’s genre-blending newcomer and viral sensation who boasts 1.2 million monthly listeners. Kehoe’s set was short but concise, with fans hanging onto every word with conviction. Her piercing eyes, like stakes through hearts, really set the tone and raised the bar extremely high for the veterans of the hard rock scene. Kehoe’s set mainly consisted of songs from her latest EP Kandy, released in July 2025 via Atlantic Records, and her last album Revived via Coup D’État Recordings / 10k Projects. Kehoe notably made her way behind the drum set for “Die 4 U” and “Kandy,” ending her set with her latest single “Dopamine.”

As the sun began to set and the moon rose quickly, the stage turned blue with a thin veil of smoke filling the atmosphere — and P.O.D. took the stage. Starting off strong, the San Diego natives pulled out one of their most recognizable songs, “Boom,” and led straight into “Satellite,” both from their 2001 album Satellite, released by Atlantic Records. Lead singer Sonny Sandoval then acknowledged the Asbury Park crowd and asked if they could play a new one before launching into “Drop” off their latest album Veritas, released via Mascot Records. Sandoval’s energy during the newer songs radiated through the crowd as he swung his trademark red microphone and dreads. The crowd — a mix of older nu-metal fans and younger newcomers — received the newer material well while still showing love for their classic hits.

With nighttime now in full effect and the moon shining bright over the Summer Stage, guitarist Marcos Curiel pointed out how beautiful it was and implored the crowd to take a look. Sandoval asked if it was anyone’s first time seeing P.O.D., then jokingly wondered where those fans had been since the band’s been around since the ’90s and always does well in the Tri-State area. New to their setlist was a recently released cover of “Don’t Let Me Down,” originally performed by The Beatles — a refreshing take on a classic that slowed the pace before they launched into arguably their most iconic song, “Youth of the Nation.” The crowd was fully immersed, raising cell phone lights and swaying along. P.O.D. rounded off the set with two more tracks from Veritas and closed with “Alive.”

The energy was now electric, the crowd buzzing from the last act. The Summer Stage, engulfed in darkness and filled with smoke, was backlit by blue silhouettes as Daughtry’s keyboardist Elvio Fernandes began the intro to “Seeds,” with the rest of the band following in tow. Daughtry took the stage to a roar from the Jersey crowd. “Divided,” an epic release from Daughtry’s latest EP Shock to the System: Part Two via Big Machine Rock, set the scene — a larger-than-life force taking hold of the Jersey Shore.

Keeping the energy high, Daughtry led into “The Day I Die” off the same EP. The thickness in the air from the smoke mixed with the heat radiating from the crowd could be cut with a knife. Continuing in order through the EP, “The Bottom” slowed the pace briefly before ramping up again with lasers and smoke bursts erupting from the stage.

With Daughtry’s expansive setlist, the audience was treated to their cover of Journey’s “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart),” a 2024 single featuring Lzzy Hale of Halestorm, before diving into their back catalog — including “It’s Not Over,” the megahit from their self-titled debut album. If you were around during that era following his American Idol fame, you couldn’t escape this song. In fact, it was Billboard’s best-selling album of 2007 and one of the highest-selling debut rock albums in history. A few songs later came “Over You,” prompting several thousand fans to scream the chorus at the top of their lungs. Finishing off the set, “Artificial” — a metalcore-esque track — hit the crowd hard and fast.

The crowd, not slowing down after that explosive performance, was ready for Seether. The band hit the stage ready for business, opening with “Gasoline,” the title track from Disclaimer, followed by “Truth” from Karma and Effect, both albums released via Wind-Up Records. Feeding off the energy, bassist Dale Stewart hyped up the crowd for “Country Song,” while vocalist Shaun Morgan and guitarist Corey Lowery nailed the song’s twangy riffs and vocals. Drummer John Humphrey’s pounding kick drum had the crowd clapping perfectly in time.

Halfway through the set, Seether slowed things down with their four-times platinum song “Broken.” Vocalist Shaun Morgan let the crowd take most of the vocals, joining in for the verses. Picking the pace back up, fans were treated to “Wasteland” and “Dangerous” off Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum; “Let You Down” off Poison the Parish; followed by “Lost All Control” from Disclaimer, before closing out the night — and officially closing the Summer Stage season — with massive hits “Fake It” and “Remedy” from Karma and Effect and Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces, respectively, all via Wind-Up Records.
