Future Palace released their latest album Distortion last September. Well a lot can change in a year as the German metalcore band has just announced they signed with a new record label, Century Media, and released their first single off the new label, “Cyclone”. In addition to the single they released a new music video which you can watch here!
In the music video, the band is performing in what looks like a warehouse under construction. There are drop sheets that are billowing behind them.
When asked about the meaning behind the new single, the band stated, “It's about how an old version of yourself kept fighting you, especially referring to depression and how draining it can be to avoid turning back into that old version and trying to represent some sort of rebirth of yourself, focusing on the self-conflict. A cyclone tries to rip you apart and invade your peace and can be almost impossible to fight against." Their latest album, Distortion, had several songs with a strong mental health message, so this is not far from the band’s usual.
When talking about female fronted metal bands, Future Palace needs to be in the conversation more. Maria Lessing is a powerhouse on vocals and “Cyclone” demonstrates that well. In the song, Lessing showcases her range in singing and in harsh vocals very well, and her lyrics are also incredible, probably the strongest the band has had. I am excited to see what else the band has in store now that they are signed to Century Media.
Future Palace has some more exciting things coming, as they are embarking on their first-ever headliner in the U.S. They are bringing along Hawk and Half Me as supporting acts. As I will be attending the New York date, I am hoping to hear “Cyclone” live.
