Originating from the bleak landscapes of Norway, Funeral has established a powerful reputation for creating grand, sorrowful soundscapes. The band stands as a steadfast protector of funeral doom, with tones as heavy as the bowed branches of winter.
"Procession of Misery" continues their legacy by guiding listeners through a somber symphony of sorrow. Their new single is a dirge, a solemn march into the abyss that doesn't shy away from staring into the void, but rather finds a haunting beauty within it. Punctuated by relentless funeral drums and melodies that etch sorrow into the night sky, it embodies the soul-crushing bleakness that fuels Funeral's 20-year legacy.
Gospel of Bones is out on October 18th on Season of Mist.

ABOUT FUNERAL
Funeral, a doom metal band, has suffered much pain and loss since its formation in 1991. The band's founder, Anders Eek, has faced numerous challenges and tragedies, including the deaths of key band members. Despite these hardships, Funeral has released several classic albums, each with its unique style, from the melancholy debut "Tragedies" to the more accessible "In Fields Of Pestilent Grief" and the symphonic masterpiece "Oratorium." After celebrating their 30th anniversary in 2022, the band faced personal and life challenges that affected their musical journey.
In 2021, Funeral released "Praesentialis in Aeternum," marking a natural progression for the band. The album features guest appearances, including Lars Nedland from Borknagar and Solefald. Additionally, the band welcomed a new partner, Season of Mist, and began working on their next album, "Gospel of Bones," set to be released in October 2024.
In 2022, Funeral underwent significant changes, with singer Sindre Nedland being replaced by Eirik Krokfjord, a professionally trained baritone opera singer, and the addition of violinist Ingvild Johannessen. The band also transitioned from programmed orchestration to recording all strings analog, incorporating the Harding fiddle and classical opera vocals, moving towards a more folk sound combined with metal and classical elements.
The upcoming album, "Gospel of Bones," features autobiographical lyrical content, exploring themes of darkness, misery, pain, and loss, reflecting drummer and composer A. Eek's personal experiences. The album includes guest performances by notable musicians, such as Øyvind Rauset from Folque and Espen Ingierd from Beyond Dawn, and features an instrumental cover song with a melancholy tone.
