Progressive death metal duo Entheos kicked off the night with female lead Chaney Crabb, who got the crowd rowdy with her passionate and powerful vocals. Accompanied by Michael Stancel on guitar, Andrew Virrueta on bass, and Navene Koperweis (Chaney’s duo partner) on drums, they created the perfect mix of chaos to get your feet off the ground. Their performance of the new song ‘An End To Everything’ brought the energy up and kept the crowd spinning.
Following Entheos’ heart-starting performance, Chelsea Grin takes the stage, ready to shake the floor. Performing songs like ‘Recreant’, ‘My Damnation’, ‘Sing to My Grave’, and ‘Playing with Fire’, which Tom Barber dedicated to the fans, Chelsea Grin has been making waves in the hardcore scene since 2007 and no signs of slowing down. Currently consisting of four dynamic members, Tom Barber steadily blowing away the crowd with his intense vocals, Stephen Rutishauser with his brutally intricate guitar riffs, David Flinn laying down driving bass lines, all while Josh Miller rumbles the stage on the drums, uniting the rhythm. The crowd happily split midway through Chelsea Grin’s set, clearly no hardcore show would be complete without the wall of death. A surefire way to have you moving to the beat of some of the most powerful songs in metal music today.
As I Lay Dying triumphantly returned to Philadelphia after five years of not playing in the iconic city. They ended the night with songs from “An Ocean Between Us” such as ‘Nothing Left’ and ‘The Sound of Truth’, which debuted in 2007, making them a nostalgic treat for the headbangers. Tim Lambesis welcomed Chaney Crabb back onstage, and they beautifully blended their voices during ‘Redefined’. That was only the beginning. Ken Susi on lead guitar gave his all, with help from Phil Sgrosso on rhythm guitar, Ryan Neff on bass—who also showcased his vocal range alongside Tim—and Nick Pierce skillfully elevating the intensity of the room on drums. Throughout the headlining set, we heard songs like ‘Parallels’, ‘Condemned’, ‘Shaped By Fire’, ‘94 Hours’, and ‘Confined’. The live debut of the band’s newest single ‘Burden’, released just before the tour began, surging adrenaline from the band to the crowd. The audience was absolutely captivated by the metal legends; horns were up, and the sounds of fans singing along could be heard the entire time.
