ELICERE Focuses Progressive Blackened Metalcore In Debut Album [erased]

French metal band ELICERE unveil their debut album [erased], delivering a mixture of hardcore speed and fury, black metal bleakness and atmospherics, and the technicality of metalcore. The album is available now on all major streaming platforms.
Formed in 2023 in the Tarn region of France, ELICERE play modern metal with a defined conceptual line. Instead of heaviness per se, the band intend to use their music to address questions of identity, social corruption, belief and the pull of turning away from the world or facing it.
The concept of [erased] is formed by Erased, a character trapped under an imagined dome and gazing upon a world of narcissism, hero worship and fractured relationships. In the beginning she is the witness, but she increasingly feels the need to have her voice heard. The album chronicles this journey from silence and disenchantment to activism and options.
Themes of the record range further than one person's frustration. ELICERE confronts the ignoreability of imminent consequences, the lie of omnipotence and the track those notions have the capacity to travel. These themes broaden [erased], beyond the personal story, to the ways we all do or don't listen to the universe and the ideologies we do or don't buy.
Even its name indicates how the band approaches the music. From the Latin for "to draw out," ELICERE also rings of the Socratic art of misnaming, questioning to draw out knowledge that otherwise might never have been revealed. The touchstone for that choice, and the one underlying the album, is the concept of uncovering what's just beneath the surface - both in our fractured society and in ourselves.
In musical terms, we combine multiple tropes of modern heavy music, weaves pop music's extreme mixing of anger, tension, and release into the grittiest passages of blacker sounds, and encapsulates the throwaway feel of metalcore. Their debut is defined by contrast, and its sound is an extension of its story.
[erased] further develops the project's focus on the body, soul and spirit, setting self-examination apart as a difficult yet vital act. Further, the progression from passive viewer to defiant voice steers the album with a noticeable internal logic, while broader themes promote personal interpretation and extend an invitation for empathy.
If Infected Rain, Orbit Culture, Bleed From Within and Eths are of interest to you, then welcome to the universe of the new name in the modern metal scene: ELICERE. On [erased], this French band presents itself as a strategic mixture of growls and philosophical thoughts.
