On May 14th, 2025- New York metalcore band Deadlands has just unleashed a brutal, melodic new single "Limbo", which is an inspiration followed by one of the seven deadly sins. The song alongside the music video, directed by Alex Kouvatsos at Blackwolf Imaging, dives into the themes of stress, anxiety, doubt, and trauma that one has faced in their lifetime. The band is set to release their EP 'Seven' via Spinefarm Records and will be available on June 27th, 2025.
Based on the music video and the lyrics, the song appears to represent Lust, which is one of the seven deadly sins. The music video gives off a very dark, gothic scenery. In the music video, Kasey is seen alone at the bar while guitarist CJ was hanging around with a group of individuals at the table next to her. In the seven deadly sins, Lust symbolizes the excessive desire of pleasure over one person, which can inflict harm on others associated with that person. With facing such anxiety, stress and trauma, Kasey turned into some demonic, creepy devil vampire and let's say her makeup and the special effects were put together so perfectly; she ultimately attacked CJ and ripped his heart out. Out of all the Deadlands' tracks, this has to be the most melodic track released yet, and honestly might be one of my favorites besides their collaboration with The Pretty Wild on "Kundalini", which symbolizes envy.
Front woman Kasey Karlsen shares ,"SEVEN explores the seven deadly sins, intricately woven into the fabric of a metalcore soundscape that resonates...Each track serves as a chilling personification of these ancient vices, inviting listeners into a world steeped in despair and moral decay. The goal is to hold a mirror to ourselves and deconstruct the things that breed evil in the soul."
