Deadlands and The Pretty Wild Drop Fiery New Anthem "Kundalini"

On Friday, February 7th, 2025- New York metalcore band Deadlands releases hard crushing, vicious new single with The Pretty Wild known as "Kundalini". Who would have thought that these talented bands would both do a collaboration together? Deadlands, formed in early 2022, consists of vocalist Kasey Karlsen, and guitarist/producer CJ Arey "No Shade". Deadlands has made such insane releases since the start of the band. They have released their debut EP 'Sentence Of Myself' in 2022, following the release was "House Of Cards" and since joining Spinefarm Records, they have released their previous single "Villain".

"When we started writing 'Kundalini,' everything just felt so natural. CJ [Arey] and I walked into the studio and instantly clicked with The Pretty Wild girls (Jyl and Jules), and of course, Andrew the producer. From the very start, there was an incredible synergy, and we got right down to business. In just two days, we had created something truly special. The experience was infused with divine, feminine energy, and it was nothing short of inspiring.. "I'm beyond thankful to have worked alongside such brilliant and badass women. Jyl and Jules brought their unique artistry and creativity to the table, elevating the song to a whole new level. CJ and I were also blown away by Andrew's immense talent — his contribution was extraordinary, and we'd love to collaborate with him again in the future."

-Kasey Karlsen

"'Kundalini' represents the primal, divine energy waiting to awaken, and that untamed force became the heartbeat of this song, a surge of calling out toxic femininity, empowerment, and transformation. We loved channeling that metal-physical edge, stitching together the spiritual and the brutal. Collaborating with Deadlands was an unforgettable journey, and we all poured everything into this beast, we can't wait to unleash it live."

-Jules (The Pretty Wild)

From the start of the song, fans are introduced to a soothing, soft, guitar riff, similar to what you would hear from a Polyphia song; which was something I certainly was not expecting to hear. I was expecting immediately from the start like a hard crushing, heavy riff but the change up was very amazing. CJ has done a phenomenal job with the guitars in this song. This collaboration has been leaving fans excited, but impatient for quite some time now; since then, fans are absolutely going insane for this collab.

What I really love about "Kundalini" is the fact you are able to hear a combination of both elements of The Pretty Wild's nu-metal sound and Deadlands' metalcore sound. You know if it is The Pretty Wild's song if there is rapping involved. What also put me in shock was hearing Kasey rapping because she always tells people how she is the worst at rapping, but she definitely has a trick or two up her sleeve. The song dives into the themes of empowerment and awakening. With the Hindu concept of "Kundalini", once it's energy is awakened, it removes the negativity and brings you that power and uplifts you from those complications people face on the daily. It wants all men and women to gain that strength and power they need.
