Coastal Club's new EP "All The Things You Said" delves into the concept of human existence, taking listeners on a journey of self-discovery. Band members Alexandre Hirlinger, David McGuire, and Avery Benter used this EP as a way of self-exploration diving into topics such as mental health, lost love, and religion, providing insight into the complexities of the human experience.
Lead singer Alexandre has expressed that the main theme of this project was to create a collection of songs born from the contemplation of the human experience and all it encompasses. The songs address weighty subjects while maintaining an upbeat and cheerful rhythm, characterized by the band as a blend of "lighthearted guitar riffs and melancholic synth sounds.”
The EP begins with the song "Cigarettes," which captures the essence of young love and expresses the carefree bliss of childhood with lyrics like "We’ve been playin’ cards/making memories you won't forget/ we can just be kids in a cardboard castle." The music seamlessly transitions into the next track, "Be Like Me," as the listener follows the ups and downs of a relationship, from blissful ignorance to the pain of loss with lyrics like "The laughter is fading and all that’s left is the doubts." Coastal Club leads their listeners through an impeccable EP as they connect every song flawlessly making it feel like the listeners are following along their life story. The song “Lost in My Head” is no exception as it touches on the theme of solitude, resonating with the experience of feeling manipulated by others, while also highlighting resilience in the face of adversity.
Coastal Club's sound is a captivating blend of indie pop, drawing inspiration from bands like COIN and Young the Giant. The EP was released on Friday, July 19th.
