For anyone who’s been following CYB for a while now will know how incredible and diverse they are. The release of their second album will cement this.
Catch Your Breath’s newest album release, Not Broken Enough, is a thrilling reminder of why the band has built such a loyal following. Across its runtime, the album balances raw emotion with electrifying energy, blending heavy guitar riffs, soaring choruses, and heart‑on‑sleeve lyricism in a way that feels both fresh and familiar.
The album kicks off with "Contaminated" an absolute adrenaline shot of an opener. From the first few beats, the track surges forward with a euphoric chorus and raging guitar, perfectly setting the tone for what’s to come. It’s a song that instantly grabs the listener, combining powerful vocals with intricate instrumentals that are tight yet full of passion.
From there, the record moves into "Red Alert", a track that continues the momentum with punchy rhythms and a chorus that’s tailor‑made for live performances. It’s a song that feels like a call to arms, brimming with urgency but never tipping into chaos. Following it, "Blood Money" brings a darker, more brooding energy. The guitars snarl and the drums thunder, giving the track a weight that shows the band’s versatility. Lyrically, it strikes a nerve, addressing themes of betrayal and disillusionment with a sharp edge.
In my opinion I think that the most anticipated track for long‑time fans is "Control", this song channels similar emotional intensity while expanding the band’s soundscape. It’s a break‑up song at its core, but rather than wallowing in heartbreak, it marries into the defiance and a determination to reclaim your sense of self. The vocal delivery and the soft guitar make it a stand‑out moment on this album.
"Lost" and "Dark" showcase Josh’s range beautifully along with the melodic riffs and heart pulling lyrics. Lost manages to feel hopeful, with a chorus that will be an ear worm that lingers long after the track ends.
The collab that personally makes me so happy is "[GEN] inside" with upcoming artist Kami Kehoe - the mix of both lyrics and raging riffs with low screams sets the up so perfectly, a showcase of both artists. Dark, with the opening lyrics ‘ you said you never leave my side, you’d be here every night.. but then I close my eyes’ considered as a follow up their breakout hit ‘Dial Tone’, on the other hand it couples the two tracks perfectly.
Closing out the album is "Hollow Dreams", an intense track that brings this incredible record to full circle and closing it off perfectly. Feeling intimate yet cinematic, as if the band wanted to leave listeners with a lasting emotional imprint, the incredible diverse lyrics delve into the vulnerability and reflection that the entire brings - tying together the album’s themes of struggle, resilience, and catharsis with a lovely little bow.
‘Not Broken Enough’ brings the ability of being the steady balance of heaviness and softness through this album. The production and songwriting are both sharp, and the band’s chemistry is shown throughout. Each track feels like an everlasting chapter in a larger journey, and by the end, it’s hard not to be moved by the emotional honesty.
