Emerging from the deepest, most desolate voids of blackened death/doom, Canadian trio WITHERER are set to release their long-awaited debut album, Shadow Without A Horizon, on June 20th through Hypaethral Records.
This harrowing debut plunges headfirst into a crushing, subterranean descent—where towering, ancient stone feels suffocating and the echoes of lost souls spiral endlessly in cavernous dark. The album feels like an excavation through timeless catacombs—each track pulling the listener deeper into a world where funereal doom and blackened death coalesce into something eerily transcendent. The music doesn’t simply explore darkness—it embodies it. Shadow Without A Horizon immerses the listener in thick, suffocating atmosphere, where ritualistic dirges give way to blistering convulsions, and the walls between the cosmic and the chthonic collapse entirely.
Blending the sheer intensity of black/death with the meditative, soul-wrenching depths of funeral doom, WITHERER crafts a sound that’s both vast and intimate—an experience as meditative as it is punishing. The band—made up of pseudonymous veterans of the genre—was originally the solo vision of Tiamoath (vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards), but evolved into a full three-piece with the addition of Øhrracle on guitar and vocals and Hex Visceræ on drums. What began with a single track in 2019 (“Milk Sea [Bathing in Its Waves]”) and an unreleased demo has now grown into a fully realized and fearsome force. Over several years of writing and internal evolution, WITHERER shifted away from their earlier atmospheric black metal leanings and fully embraced the dragging dread and gravity-warping weight of doom, forming a monstrous hybrid. That transition wasn’t just stylistic—it was existential. Each member grappled with personal brushes with mortality during the album's creation, making Shadow Without A Horizon not just a concept, but a deeply personal reckoning.
“I’d already described the album as a kind of hour-long memento mori,” Tiamoath reflects. “But the fact that we each dealt with health scares or direct contact with death during this time added a different weight to everything. It made the record feel more cathartic, more real.”
From its glacial dirges to frenzied blackened surges, this is an album that stretches genre constraints while digging deeper than most dare to go. Tracks like the newly unveiled single, “Solar Collapse Mandala,” showcase the band’s uncanny ability to balance atmospheric tension with overwhelming force. A slow-burning requiem that erupts into volcanic fury, the track moves from spectral chants to molten blasts of black/death violence, closing in a moment of collapse that feels both devastating and transcendent.
The album features guest appearances from T. G. (vocals/guitar on “Praises”) and M. Adem (vocals on “Devourer of All Graveyards” and “Solar Collapse Mandala”). The recording process was split between Roland Rodas at Cavern Of Echoes Studios and Matt Hems at Seventh Level Sound, with a standout track—“The Wailing Hours (Plummeting Under The Tunnels)”—recorded and produced by Cameron O’Neill. Vocals from M. Adem were recorded and produced by Raphael Weinroth-Browne, and final mixing/mastering duties were handled by Rodas.
Visually, the album is brought to life with artwork, layout, and photography edited by Danille Gauvin, enhancing the otherworldly aura of the record.

Physical formats will include a CD (limited to 300 copies) and a 2xLP available in Subterranean Blue (100 copies) and Black vinyl (200 copies), in addition to digital distribution. Preorders are available now via Hypaethral Records’ webshop and Bandcamp. WITHERER is also featured in Decibel Magazine’s June 2025 issue, offering deeper insight into the creative process and vision behind the record.
