ree

From shore to shore, AMON AMARTH, are the face of Viking heavy metal. Hailing from Sweden in the early 90s, the band shares its legendary sound with fans worldwide. If you are familiar with The Lord of The Rings trilogy, the band’s name means "Mount Doom" in the Elvish language Sindari. With a name like that, there is no question that lore awaits you, and you know it will be epic. Amon Amarth is currently on tour in North America as part of "The Heaviest Tour of the Summer" with none other than the one and only Pantera.

There is no shortage of thunderous double-bass glory, viking culture, and soaring guitar solos throughout their catalog. At this point in time, they have 12 studio albums under their belt that are steeped in viking folklore, action-packed instrumentals, and rip-roaring lyrical delivery. Take a look at any of their albums track-listings and you will see for yourself that this band goes beyond the “concept album” approach.

Their debut album “Once Sent From The Golden Hall” (1998) set them onward into a long career bringing head-banging delight to every setting that they play. AMON AMARTH are quite the force, both creatively and musically speaking. There are few bands that have the commitment to continue their projects for as long as this one does, and we are shown nothing but longevity and dedication from them. Amon Amarth currently has five members: vocalist Johan Hegg, guitarists Olavi Mikkonen and Johan Söderberg, bassist Ted Lundström, and drummer Jocke Wallgren.

Amon Amarth's genre style is primarily melodic death metal, even though we call them “Viking Metal”. Their signature deep gruff vocals, doom-impending rhythmic section, and powerful riffs that blend brutal heaviness with catchy melodies are what make them. The lyrical themes of Norse mythology paired with the aforementioned style is what is unmistakably that of Amon Amarth.

Although they are legends in the world of metal, that doesn’t settle them down from creating new music to this day. You could say that they bring with them a ‘horn of plenty’ to the studio each time they enter. Their new single and music video “We Rule The Waves” is proof of that notion. The song and video pair very well. The setting of the video takes place in a lively village, where its people are seen interacting and celebrating life. Those people are from all walks of life, and they are shown sharing in their viking culture and joy in a way that can even be relatable to the viewer. Sharpen your swords, grab an oar, and join the band’s adventure in this song/video.

Amon Amarth are taking North America by storm as they progress through their current tour. If they have not yet played your hometown yet, this is one you do not want to miss. This band is one of the best live acts in metal that you will see. They perform their songs, sometimes with theatrics and pyrotechnics, and keep the audience engaged from top to bottom of their show setlist. They really bring to life the stories that their songs are about, and the pit is full of jovial metalheads who want to row the venue through the tempest. They’ve been the headliners of several European festivals and even joined Slayer on their final tour of the US, so there is no question that this is a cornerstone band.
