Alternative and Punk Leaders and Genre-Benders, AFI, are back with a new single, music video, and album release date.

At midnight on this fine Tuesday in August, AFI brought us new material; the first in four years. AFI fans are used to waiting, as this band takes the time necessary to craft the new sound they want the world to hear. Although the single leaked earlier in the week, UV awaited the official drop. It wasn't easy, but it was well worth the wait.
Behind The Clock begins with mysterious whirlings and a reminiscent synth layer as guitar sprinkles textures in from above. A grooving and sturdy rhythm sectional is established, allowing a pathway for the brooding vocals that follow. The music video certainly supports the atmospheric element of the audio, visually. The video gives horror vibes to match the lyrical haunts brought to you by Davey Havok. Jade Puget, Hunter Burgan, and Adam Carson are shown playing through the song while some things are happening within and externally. The rest is up to you to see for yourself. I recommend watching it in the dark.
On Monday, a day prior to this drop, the band's social media posted a cryptic video of a large cabinet clock (with some audio elements later found in the single), showing the time being 6:06. Fans speculate that the time shown relates to their hit album Decemberunderground, as that album came out in June of 2006 aka 6 of ‘06, specifically on 6/6/06. Could there be an anniversary show next year (the album turns 20) or is it just a coincidence? The band's Instagram no longer shows anything that was posted prior to this month, making plenty of room for this new era.
These creative adults never cease to impress with their endless well of work. They went from Rise Records on their previous release Bodies (2021) to Run For Cover Records for the latest release. You never know what they will do next, yet, you expect it will sound like AFI and it certainly does each time. They keep things fresh and unique to them with every era, nevertheless, they share with us many glimmers within their myriad of collective influences.
The band just announced their new album Silver Bleeds The Black Sun will be out October 3rd, 2025. Pre-Order is live and their vinyl/merch will sell quick.
The band goes on tour this fall with special guests TR/ST, and ticket/more information can be found HERE!
