PRUDE by Drug Church: A 28-Minute Rollercoaster of Hardcore Bliss

DRUG CHURCH- HIGH RES PHOTO BY MANUEL BARAJAS

Hold onto your hats, punk aficionados, because Drug Church is back and they’re louder, prouder, and more unapologetically themselves than ever! The punk rock provocateurs have just dropped the news of their upcoming album, PRUDE, set to hit the airwaves on October 4th, 2024, courtesy of Pure Noise Records. And if that wasn’t enough to get your adrenaline pumping, they’ve also unleashed a brand-new single, 'Chow,' that’s sure to rattle your bones and stir your soul.

For over a decade, Drug Church has been making a compelling argument that they are the undisputed champions of loud guitar music. With PRUDE, they might just have delivered the knockout punch. This album is a lean, mean 28-minute machine of hardcore ferocity and '90s alternative charm, packed to the brim with personality, irreverence, and a whole lot of heart. It’s so instantly gratifying that it almost masks the sheer audacity of a scrappy punk band from Albany, NY, becoming one of the most beloved acts on the planet.

Their lead single, 'Demolition Man,' turned heads and grabbed headlines from heavyweights like The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Stereogum, BrooklynVegan, and Revolver Magazine. Now, 'Chow' is here to keep the momentum going, showcasing Drug Church’s knack for melody without losing an ounce of their edge. Rolling Stone even sat down with the band for an in-depth interview, praising their “magical alchemy” of big, dumb, fun riffs and lyrics that cut deep with poetic precision.

PRUDE follows on the heels of 2022’s Hygiene, an album that garnered accolades from Pitchfork, NPR, The FADER, and Rolling Stone, and landed on year-end lists from Vogue, Stereogum, SPIN, BrooklynVegan, Revolver, Bandcamp, and more. It catapulted Drug Church from cult favorites to one of the most electrifying up-and-coming bands in the aggressive music scene.

Recorded and produced by their longtime collaborator Jon Markson, PRUDE not only meets the sky-high expectations set by their previous work but surpasses them. The band has pushed their signature elements—blistering aggression, unshakeable melodies, and razor-sharp lyrics—to new heights, all while discovering a few new tricks along the way. There’s only one band that sounds like Drug Church, and thank the punk gods, they’re exceptionally good at being themselves.
