Mac Sabbath Brings The Heat To "Birmingham" Burger!

Mac Sabbath brought the MacAttack to Birmingham, AL, for the first time, alongside Flummox and Ben Katzman's DeGreaser on April 25th, 2025.

Ben Katzman's DeGreaser or BKDG is a punk band hailing from Miami, Florida, consisting of Ben Katzman on vocals and guitar, Deo Budnevich and Jonathan Rusten on guitar duty, Paco Doc Burner on bass, and Harrison Schwartz on drums.

BKDG is delightful. With songs about not being a poser to yourself, Katzman's time on Survivor (Yes, That Survivor. Look it up...), and liking Limp Bizkit. BKDG is fresh air for a genre full of wrath and negativity—a delightful derivative of the status quo. I think we can all use some songs about not being so hard on ourselves and accepting ourselves as we are. Cringe culture is dead!

This band seriously has fun on stage with each other. During one of the last songs, the bassist's strap disconnected, and one of the guitarists ran over to "help" him by making fun of him and flapping the strap around.

BKDG closed out their set with an absolute banger, "Florida Man," and Katzman incited the crowd to chant the song's title. BKDG is delightful, and I look forward to the next time they come into town.

Flummox is a genre-fluid Murfreesboro, TN-based band. Consisting of Alyson Blake Dellinger on lead vocals and bass, Chase McCutcheon and Max Mobarry on guitar, Jesse Peck on keyboards, and Alan Pfeifer on drums

Flummox is a word that means "to bewilder". This band certainly achieves this. I watched most of the set slackjawed, in complete awe. From coordinated dance breaks to the band in pig masks swarming the audience, to a Star Wars meme song cover, this band is sure to confuse you utterly, or I suppose you could say flummox you.

Coordinated dance break!
Coordinated dance break!

Alyson's rage is tangible in every word of songs like "Trans Girls Need Guns". A song about hunting down those who have chastised you for your identity.

Flummox's most recent album "Southern Progress" released earlier this year explores themes of Christian nationalisim and collective trauma of queer folk living in the bible belt. I highly recommend giving it a listen, it hit close to home for me.

"Long Pork" was one of the final songs of their set. Band members donned pig masks and descended into the crowd to beg for slop. Alyson donned an apron as she called her piggies back to the stage with a dinner bell.

Mac Sabbath hit the stage with a foreboding monologue about the dangers of fast food and the origins of Mac Sabbath. Ronald and his crew come from another dimension to rescue us lowly humans from the toxic sludge we call "food". Featuring a menu of Montesano Mutants, Ronald Osbourne on vocals and grill, Slayer MacCheeze on guitar, Grimalice on bass, and the Catburglar on drums.

If you aren't familiar with Mac Sabbath, don't sweat it. From speaking to fans at the show, it's commonplace to blindly bring first-timers to Mac Sabbath shows. Based on the amount of "What the hell?"s I heard from surrounding folks as the dropcloth fell.

Tonight was a special night. Mac Sabbath in their hometown, away from home. As per the normal timeline's Black Sabbath, Birmingham, UK is their hometown. Mac Sabbath brought out the big squirt bottles and the exclusive merch!

Mac Sabbath is one of those bands that has hundreds of gags on at any given time, yet aren't alienating to new fans. One that had me in tears was that any mention of the word "Cake" would launch the band into a cover of "The Distance" by Cake.

I ended up being a part of the joke when Osbourne asked our opinion of stark competitor "Gwarby's" (A play on GWAR and Arby's). I hollered like a wounded animal, which led to the Catburglar asking who the bass player of Gwarby's is. I happily shouted "Beefcake the Mi- WAIT!" as the Employee of the Month ran out on stage with a "Cake" sign as the band launched into the song for the third time that set.

One of my other favorite running gags is Ronald Osbourne talking about various fast-food metal bands, such as "King Burger Diamond", "Papa John Roach," and other hilarious drive-thru puns.

Speaking of the Employee of the Month, I have to give him a shout-out. Not only was he slinging merch, but he also assisted Ronald throughout the set.

Ronald was kicked off the stage at one point, after being caught snorting ants by the Catburglar. His replacement, Ronald James Dio, made their way to the stage to perform her rendition of "The Slob Drools".

Rejoining the band after shooing away Dio, Ronald Osbourne had quite a taste for fish blood. Running back onto the stage with a burger union jack flag, The Grouper followed behind. Yes. A filet-of-fish parody of Iron Maiden's "The Trooper".

After an epic and hilarious battle onstage, Osbourne returned with the head of the mighty Grouper.

Mac Sabbath finished off the night with their rendition of "Paranoid" titled "Pair-a-buns." Ronald loaded himself onto a burger pool floatie and was sent off into the crowd by the Employee of the Month. Watching the audience panic, laugh, and record with their phones is a highlight of Mac Sabbath's finale. Ronald's floatie made it to the back of the venue and back to the stage to be rescued by his loyal employee.

Be sure to catch Mac Sabbath the next time Ronald and his supersized circus come through your town! You won't be disappointed with any small portions. The riffs are piping hot, and so are the fries and the vibes.
