The iconic band, Earth, Wind and Fire visited The Astro Amphitheater in La Vista, Nebraska last Wednesday. The venue is such a good experience and contributes to the already amazing vibe that Earth, Wind and Fire brings. One thing that stood out to me upon arrival was how diverse in age the crowd was. Some people were around for the peak of disco and there was also a child who was maybe two years old there. I thought it was amazing seeing whole families there enjoying the music and time with each other.
There was one opener for the show, and it was an artist from Omaha named “Dreion”. Dreion started the show off the night on a fun and soulful note, so it was perfect. Dreion was actually on the NBC show “The Voice” where he was on Team Snoop Dogg, so it was super cool seeing a young and successful Omaha-native artist performing in his hometown. He was on stage for around thirty minutes and was showing off his dance moves and was also accompanied by back-up dancers.
Then, it was time for Earth, Wind and Fire to hit the stage. They started off the show with a bang, performing one of their iconic songs, “Shining Star”. That got the crowd up and dancing and showed just how fun the night was about to be. Another thing that Earth, Wind and Fire did during the show was project older pictures from earlier in their career. It created a huge sense of nostalgia. Although only two of the original band members are still in the band, those two were doing the majority of lead singing. They were still dancing around, and they sounded great. Some of the newer members of the band are related to the original members, which I thought was such a cool thing that they did. They did such an amazing job of mixing their slower songs with their more energetic songs. They talked to the crowd quite a bit, which is something that I always enjoy. Another thing they did was mix in their most popular songs in with some of their not-as-popular ones. They played all of their amazing hits that I would say a majority of music listeners have heard and are familiar with, like “September”, “Let’s Groove”, “Boogie Wonderland”, “After the Love Has Gone”, “Fantasy”, and many more.
All around, this show was one of the most enjoyable that I have had the opportunity to photograph and review. The overall vibe of the show was so immaculate and everywhere you looked, people were dancing and having a wonderful time. If Earth, Wind and Fire is ever doing a show around you, I would 100% encourage you to go and have an amazing night. This will be a show that I, and everyone there, will never forget. It felt so special seeing such a legendary band live, especially for someone who wasn’t alive during the peak of their career.
